Job description

We're looking for a Project Manager to join our STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) team based in Oxfordshire. Location: Oxfordshire Hours: Full time - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us. We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role. Join us in a world-changing endeavour as a Project Manager on the UK's flagship national programme to deliver a prototype fusion energy plant. STEP is deliberately bold and ambitious, targeting 2040 to deliver commercially viable fusion energy. As a Project Manager, you'll be responsible for the successful delivery of projects that help us generate net energy from fusion and stimulate an industry that will prove its commercial viability. You'll drive and oversee project delivery, ensuring objectives are clearly defined and achieved within agreed time, cost, and quality constraints. What will you be responsible for? As a Project Manager, you'll be working within the Programme Management team, supporting them in delivering STEP's mission to generate net energy from fusion. Your day to day will include: Developing comprehensive Project Management Plans to achieve agreed outcomes and milestones within time, cost, and quality requirements Providing daily management and leadership of project teams, managing budgets typically between £0.5m - £10m per annum Managing stakeholder relationships, ensuring necessary support at senior levels, and providing regular reporting on project progress Developing and managing contracts with suppliers and contractors to established government standards, working with Commercial teams Proactively managing project risks and issues, maintaining accurate registers, and ensuring timely escalation of significant concerns What are we looking for? This role of Project Manager is great for you if: You have proven experience in project management, with a recognised qualification (APM PMQ, Prince 2, PMP or similar) You can demonstrate knowledge and experience working with different project management methodologies including waterfall, agile, and hybrid approaches You have demonstrated experience managing budgets and financial project management within projects up to £10m in value per annum You possess excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously You have strong commercial awareness with the ability to make sound economic decisions that maximise project value Rewards and benefits We're proud to be able to offer our brilliant people a wide variety of benefits that you can tailor to your needs.
