Job description

VA Accountancy is a well-established, professional accountancy firm offering a wide range of services including Tax Returns, Accounts, Bookkeeping, Payroll and Pensions, VAT, Company Secretarial services across Quickbooks, FreeAgent and DEXT. We’re looking for an Accounts Assistant to join our friendly team. In this hybrid role, you will be involved in a variety of projects with good bookkeeping and VAT experience as a minimum, although payroll, CIS, final accounts and tax returns experience would be desired. If you’re passionate about finance, are detailed-oriented and proactive, this is an opportunity to make a real impact while enjoying flexible working and career development. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, confident in dealing with clients directly and preferably have practice experience of at least 18 months, AAT level 3 or above and be a collaborative team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills. This position provides valuable hands-on experience in practice providing services to a diverse mixture of client types across many sectors. Key Responsibilities · Processing client records across multiple software platforms, including DEXT, Quickbooks and FreeAgent · Liaising with clients in respect of bookkeeping queries, and assisting clients as required · Reviewing and preparing VAT returns for submission to HMRC on behalf of clients · Being nominated point of contact for your client allocation · Where applicable, attend meetings with clients · Processing payroll, calculation of liabilities and dealing with client queries (dependant on experience) · Processing CIS returns to HMRC and advising clients of good practice (dependant on experience) · Preparing sole trader, partnership and limited company accounts (dependant on experience) · Preparing Self-Assessment Tax Returns and Making Tax Digital for Income Tax quarterly and final submissions to HMRC on behalf of clients (dependant on experience) · Preparing Corporation Tax Returns for submissions to HMRC on behalf of clients (depending on experience) · Preparing and submitting Company Secretarial filings with Companies House on behalf of clients (depending on experience) Please note: This list covers the core responsibilities but isn’t exhaustive. As the team continues to grow and develop, there may be additional opportunities to contribute and take on new tasks to support the business. Key Competencies - Essential · Previous experience working within an accountancy practice or finance department · Strong data entry skills with high accuracy and attention to detail · Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping processes and deadlines · Excellent organisational and IT skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively · Ability to work independently as well as part of a team Key Competencies -Desirable · AAT Level 3 or above · Experience with accounting software such as Quickbooks, FreeAgent and Dext, although training for specific platforms can be provided · Experience of Tax Calc final accounts software · Experience of Bright Manager Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent - will consider all Pay: £26,500.00-£32,000.00 per year Benefits: Additional leaveCasual dressCompany eventsCompany pensionFlexitimeFree parkingHealth & wellbeing programmeLife insuranceOn-site parkingPrivate dental insurancePrivate medical insuranceSick payWork from home
